Substitute Peter Winn climbed off the bench to earn the Linnets a vital point at relegation-threatened Frickley Athletic on Tuesday night.

Winn (pictured) struck 19 minutes from time to earn Lynn their fourth point from a possible nine on their travels in the space of a week.

Lynn started the better of the two sides with Stephen Spriggs forcing Ben Simpson into a smart save with a shot from 25 yards in the second minute.

Jake Jones, on his return to the club, headed over from 10 yards following a deep free-kick in the seventh minute while Frickley central defender John Cyrus was called on to clear a dangerous cross from Spriggs behind for a corner less than a minute later.

The Blues lost goalkeeper Ben Simpson through injury in the 18th minute and shortly afterwards his replacement, Sam Leigh, was forced to tip a 20-yard free-kick from David Bell over the bar after Jones had been brought down just outside the box.

The hosts began to find their feet and in the 34th minute Alex Street dashed out to clear from the onrushing Gavin Allott.

Nine minutes later, Frickley took the lead on 34 minutes when Reece Thompson was pulled back by Henry Eze who was fortunate to escape with a yellow card.

Allott stepped up to blast the spot kick past Street.

In the fifth minute of first-half stoppage time, Eze went close to making amends but he lifted the ball over the bar from six yards following a deep free-kick from Ross Watson.

The Linnets lost captain Bell at half-time, with Winn replacing him.

Chances were few and far between in the second period, although on 52 minutes Jones played the ball into the onrushing David Bridges but his effort was deflected into the arms of Leigh.

Brad Riley saw his angled shot deflected just wide on 69 minutes for Frickley before the Linnets equalised two minutes later.

A quick break down the right by Spriggs saw his cross spilled by Leigh with substitute Winn following up to score.

Desperate for the points to move away from the relegation zone, the Blues upped the pressure late on with Street rushing out to clear from Allott and then blocking on the line from Thompson following a deep free-kick from James Kay in the 87th minute.
