King’s Lynn woman slapped door staff member at Maid’s Head pub
A woman has been told to pay compensation to a door staff member she slapped outside a town pub.
Tasha Ogle, 29, of Bunnet Avenue in Lynn, appeared at the town’s magistrates’ court on Thursday, pleading guilty to assault by beating.
Crown prosecutor Nicola Lamb told magistrates that on March 18 this year, police were called to the Maid’s Head pub on the Tuesday Market Place – where Ogle was drinking.
She exited the venue and began talking to a member of the door staff, “taking it upon herself” to ask what was happening, before telling the staff member that she was going to “get people down to do you”.
Ogle then delivered an open-hand slap to their face.
Ms Lamb said that Ogle showed remorse following the incident, and was shocked when she was shown CCTV footage of the incident.
Mitigating for Ogle, solicitor George Sorrell said: “This is the first time she had been out, she thought for enjoyment, in a number of years.
“She went out and drank far too much. She was intoxicated, and that is why she has very little memory of the incident itself.
“Even people who work outside public houses, places that sell alcohol, don’t expect to be slapped, and the defendant realises that.”
Mr Sorrell said that drinking caused Ogle to “lose her common sense”.
“She is very sorry for her actions,” he added.
“There had been problems in the past, but she thought she was over them. She has taken the experience of this event very much in hand to make sure that it will never happen again.”
Magistrates, led by Ginni Hutton, handed Ogle a 12 month conditional discharge for the assault.
She was also told to pay £100 in compensation to the member of the Maid’s Head staff she slapped, as well as £105 in legal costs and a £48 victim surcharge.
