Norfolk issued yellow weather warning as heavy rain could cause flooding and travel disruptions
Heavy rain is expected to sweep across Norfolk this afternoon and could continue overnight causing potential travel disruptions and flooding.
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for outbreaks of rain and thunder starting at 3pm until 9am tomorrow across the majority of the country.
There is also the possibility of difficult driving conditions and power cuts.
Forecasters have said 15mm to 20mm of rain may fall in less than an hour with a few places seeing up to 40mm in two hours.
Residents are being warned to check road conditions before driving to avoid delays and to amend any travel plans if necessary.
Today is also St Swithin’s Day, a day traditionally believed to forecast the weather for the next 40 days based on today’s weather.
The proverb from traditional folklore can be found below:
“St Swithin’s day if thou dost rain,
For forty days if will remain.
St Swithin’s day if thou be fair,
For forty days ‘twill rain nae mair.”
