Have your say

In the press and on television recently there have been many stories about a seal that was found in a meadow many miles from the sea.

I can remember many years ago when a farmer kept a seal in a pit at Wereham. It was called Billy as that is what fishermen call all seals. Having cleared all the fish out of the pond in a matter of days, people would take it fish. People would stand at the edge of the pit and call “Billy, Billy” and he would come across the lake like a torpedo for fish thrown to him to catch.

Every night a man who lived near the pit would call him up so that he could sleep in his garage.
