The chairwoman, vice-chairman, secretary and treasurer of the Friends of the Willows would like to thank both the chief executive and the leader of West Norfolk Council for their prompt action and support with the ongoing problems at this beautiful, peaceful area of nature reserve in Downham Market.

It has been agreed that there will be an aerator for the pond to safeguard the fish and a budget for the Environment Agency to continue their support in the short term.

The fish will be removed and transferred to another location by 1st November.

Work for the removal of

reeds and siltation will be undertaken between November 1 and February 28, and also coppicing of the problematic trees.

Once work is complete, the fish will be returned to the pond.

We hope this news will re-assure everyone that work has been on going behind the scenes and results obvious.

When the urgent work has been completed, a plan will be put in place for the continued upkeep of the Willows.

Margaret Key, Melvyn, Andrew and Julie, Downham Market
