Whilst I agree with Chris Smith in his observations on the proposed Hopkins housing development, I cannot agree with him regarding the disposal of any proceeds.
He says a pier would “benefit the town”. In what way?
Assuming it attracted more visitors (and that is open to doubt), this might be good for a few local holiday traders, but what benefit would it bring to the average resident, most of whom are retirees ? And as to “the council” (town, borough or county) responding to electors’ wishes, this will never happen while the majority seem determined to blindly vote Tory come what may, allowing councillors to do what they please.
