Just a short follow-on point to Dan O’Connor’s excellent informative letter regarding the financial woes of our NHS. (Letters, February 10).
Whilst this government is always putting a cap on the costs of all parts of the NHS this does not apply to expenditure on weapons. This country is being forced to pour millions of pounds into the troubled F-35 stealth fighter programme. The unit cost of each of these aircraft is just below a hundred million dollars per jet and this government is buying 138 of them! Put simply, our politicians are quite happy spending billions on arms to kill people, but are not prepared to do the same to save people via the NHS.
