Schools in our area have faced savage cuts, experiencing the largest real-terms cuts in funding in more than a generation.
Some of the local primary schools have had 14 per cent taken off their budgets. How are our children going to meet desired standards of attainment when the schools meant to educate them cannot properly fund the necessary resources? Class sizes are rising, curriculum choices are being cut, pupils with special needs are losing vital support, with some not even being able to get a place, and school support staff are losing their jobs. These children are being failed by a government that doesn’t care about them and would prefer they were educated just enough to provide a meek and compliant workforce.
