Reading the Lynn News recently I was struck by the number of articles and letters which related to employment, to jobs and to the pay received for them.
I thought it revealing that, at a time that the groups which campaign collectively for better pay and conditions for the masses of ordinary workers, the trade unions, are having their rights eroded, those who don’t need them are getting even higher wages.
I also thought the statistics about the number of people being employed were very interesting and I wonder if everyone knows that even if your contract is only for one hour a week you are taken off the unemployment stats? To me the picture is clear, those at the top are getting far, far more than the majority of the people in our area. Those at the bottom need their income topped up by the Government, but their employers continue to rake in massive profits. The organisations which can help change things for the majority are having their ability to do so taken away. And this is what the MP for North West Norfolk voted for.
