What a thought-provoking headline on the front of Tuesday’s Lynn News about West Norfolk councillors giving themselves an 8.5% allowance increase, justified because they consider themselves to be “worth it”!
I have just received notification from Teachers Pensions stating that Public Service pensions, including pension payments for teachers, will not be uprated for 2016/17. This is because apparently there was no increase in the consumer prices index for the year to September 2015.
From this do we assume that WE are not worth it?
And, if they are awarding themselves these large increases with no official increase in the consumer price index, where does public accountability and transparency come into it, especially with the cuts to council funding?
