Have your say

I am not a religious person, but David Holmes stating that he is troubled by the Church of England getting involved in politics should think again.

It is a very good thing that the Archbishop of Canterbury and the church hierarchy have started voicing opinions when we have – since the days of Margaret Thatcher – a more and more unequal society (a word Thatcher didn’t like) but it shows the Church care and are concerned. Back in the 1980s, Thatcher had support from the Bishop of Peterborough about the way the country was being run.

I have seen and heard many rousing and excellent speeches over the years from Left-wing politicians and trade union leaders but a recent quote which I though was very appropriate came from Green MP Caroline Lucas and this ought to be pinned up in the Houses of Parliament: “Some MPs who are pretty well fed and watered come out of the bars and then go to vote on inflicting austerity on some of the poorest people. I’m not alone in finding this somewhat distasteful.”
