In October 2015 we formed a Community Speedwatch group in The Walpoles, incorporating men and women, from all walks of life, with the hope that we can help avoid any more accidents or fatalities, caused by people driving too fast for the road conditions.
We have all been police trained to use the necessary equipment and are clearly visible in hi-viz jackets, carrying clipboards and a speed gun. All information recorded is then passed to a designated police officer. A reminder letter is sent to offenders, which politely informs them of the fact that they were driving too fast for the clearly signed 30 or 40mph area. We are happy to report that we have been very well accepted everywhere in the last 12 months. Voluntary speedwatchers are happy to help the police by being a physical presence in certain bad areas, where a reminder to slow down is often all that is needed. We are hoping to attract more people who have a spare hour or so per month to join us. Please look online for more information and join a cheerful group, doing a worthwhile job.
