What an excellent letter from Jo Rust (January 8).
I believe the New Year’s Honours system is tainted and open to cronyism. No disrespect to Mr Bellingham, I believe he has been knighted for his loyalty to the Tory party. By always voting with the party on all issues or many issues he seems to have voted against the vulnerable and poorest people in his constituency who need his help. He voted for a reduction in housing benefit, for the bedroom tax, against welfare benefits, voted for tax credit cuts, for the rise in undergraduate tuition fees, ending financial support for 16-19-year-olds in training and further education. When it comes to the rich and wealthy, he voted against bankers’ bonus tax, against a mansion tax, against a tax increase on incomes over £150,000. Our area of Norfolk is going to lose hundreds of police, plus firefighters at stations. When will the people wake up to what’s going on?
