A new community drop-in scheme has been launched in a West Norfolk village.

The Welcome Place initiative has been set up in Walpole Cross Keys with the aim of bringing residents of all ages in the village, and other nearby communities, together.

The programme has been launched by members of the Walpoles’ Community First Responders group, with the support of the Walpole Cross Keys Women’s Institute and the Jephson Hall committee.

And Angela Warner, the hall’s bookings secretary and WI secretary, said they had been encouraged by the response to the scheme’s first event, which was opened by borough councillor Paul Kunes, at the Jephson Hall last Tuesday.

She said: “We had 22 people which we thought was good for the first one.”

Sessions will now take place at the hall on the third Tuesday of each month, between 10am and 3pm and aim to offer a range of activities, as well as help and support to people from Walpole Cross Keys and other nearby villages.

Admission is £1, payable on the door, and transport can be provided.
