Youth Service Award for Downham Market Rotary Club

Downham Rotary Club was presented with a Youth Service Award at its recent meeting.

The award was received by president Martin Chilvers and recognises the work the club, and in particular Alan Culley, has done in organising the youth technology tournaments. These started a few years ago in Downham Town Hall when local senior schools were invited to enter teams to tackle quite complex challenges and come up with practical working models of the task set.

The tournaments are designed to encourage team working and technical skills and, although challenging, are thoroughly enjoyed by the students and highly approved by the schools involved.

More schools have joined in and there are now a growing number of junior schools inviting the club to organise tournaments, the next of which is at St Martin Primary school in Shouldham on June 21.
