Teenage karting ace overcomes early issues to make his mark

Aaron Alexander marked his first championship round in his Pro Kart with a podium finish at the Teesside Autodrome.

The teenage race ace took to the track in the 200 Extreme Junior Pro Kart championship under the cameras on Alpha live (YouTube).

After opting for slick tyres and looking so fast in practice, qualifying didn't go to plan for Alexander, who only managed to qualify in ninth position – much to the shock of everyone, including the commentators.

Alexander and his team endured big set-up problems after fitting new tyres (too much grip) and his father Adam quickly made changes for heat one which helped the KES Academy pupil to finish fifth.

Heat two saw Alexander get a good start to finish the race in second.

He followed it up by crossing the line in third in the final heat after managing to get his set-up perfect for the track conditions.

The final saw the youngster in some action-packed wheel-to-wheel racing with top class drivers.

At one stage he managed to take the lead after a few laps but then dropped back to third until the last lap.

A determined finish saw him cross the line for the final chequered flag some 0.003 seconds in front of the driver in third to snatch second spot on the podium.
