West Norfolk karting ace sees his hopes of Manx GP glory dashed in controversial fashion
Aaron Alexander and his AA Racing team saw their hopes of Manx GP glory dashed in controversial circumstances at the weekend.
After making the long trip over to the Isle of Man last weekend, and after finishing second and first in his two heats, Alexander was hampered by an individual running on the track on the last lap of the final.
The youngster made his way from the rear of the pack on slic tyres on a damp track to second position, before the individual stood in the middle of the track and allegedly took a swing at the teenager with a flag pole.
The actions could have seriously hurt or killed Alexander as he was at speed at this point, but his quick-thinking saw him take evasive action and swerve off into a field.
Unfortunately, the incident cost the KES pupil second place and the chance of a podium spot as he failed cross the line for the chequered flag.
There is likely to be an investigation into the incident by the circuit owners and Alexander and his team congratulate the organisers for the way they handled the situation.
Earlier in the weekend, practice on Thursday and Friday had gone so well for the karting ace in his Junior Extreme Pro Kart.
Saturday night saw the teenager win his first race of the weekend which was a endurance race beating the local champion by half-a-lap.
Twenty-four hours later, Alexander and his team found a good race kart set up for the weather conditions and, despite the close attentions of one of his rivals, his defending on the circuit was outstanding.
The talented teenager finished all his heats in second place but got one heat awarded back to him after some contact appeared to take place in front of the organisers.
Alexander and his team thank sponsors AX Supercars, 24/7 Selfstore King’s Lynn, Lettingsupermarket.com, Howdens Joinery and MKM King’s Lynn for their continued backing.
If any other companies would like to help the young driver on his way to the top in the way of sponsorship or goods, please contact Aaron or his dad Adam through the website at: www.aaracing.co.uk
Alexander and his team are next in action in round five of the Teesside championships on June 29-30.
