Midfielder Josh Barrett has signed a one-year contract extension with the Linnets.

There is also the option of another year in the National League North club's favour to extend his stay at the Walks until June 2024.

Barrett, 24, joined the club on a free transfer in November 2021 after being released from then League Two side Bristol Rovers.

Having started his career at Reading, Barrett quickly became a fan favourite due to his skill and ability to score from long range.

Manager Tommy Widdrington said: "I am delighted to share that we have agreed a new contract with Josh Barrett.

"I spoke with Josh, expressing my wish to extend his contract before we both went off on our respective breaks.

"I was always confident an agreement would be reached as both parties genuinely wanted a common resolution.

"On our return to training the discussions were brief because there’s a trust between us that he probably hasn’t had with any other manager he’s played for.

"Josh is approaching a very important moment in his life, both in his career but also off the field as he and his partner Aofie are expecting their first child very soon so the stability of the longer contract is I'm sure everyone understands."
