Downham Stow dig in to to defeat Acle in the Norfolk Alliance Premier Division
Downham Stow secured an important victory over Acle to make it five wins from as many games to extend their lead at the top of the Norfolk Alliance Premier Division.
Having lost the toss and been sent into bat on a wet wicket, the Downham Stow batters found it extremely difficult, especially with the disciplined bowling from Acle.
False shots on a tricky wicket meant the side found themselves struggling at 30 for 4.
Fortunately, the ever-reliable Ben Wilcox (39) combined with younger brother Arthur (27) for a 69-run partnership.
Both batsmen’s contributions were easily worth double considering the conditions in front of them.
Their dismissals triggered a collapse with Downham Stow eventually dismissed for 129.
Knowing that it would take a valiant bowling effort to defend the low total, skipper Pat Yates threw the new ball to club legend Adam Todd who used the conditions to his great advantage to finish with 2 for 15 off his 10.
His opening partner Arthur Wilcox took two quick wickets early to mount the pressure on the opposition.
Wilcox finished with 4/26 of his 10 overs highlighting his all-round skills.
Jamie Cook (2/25) and Owen Stacey (1/17) both bowled with great consistency to ensure the pressure could be applied throughout the innings.
The great early start and constant pressure from bowlers and support from fielders meant that Downham Stow eventually bowled Acle out for 86.
It was a great win for Downham Stow, who had their backs against the wall throughout the whole game.
The win ensured that the momentum is carried into their next game against Bradfield, at home, this weekend.
