West Norfolk Rugby Club ladies claim first win of campaign

West Norfolk Ladies put on an outstanding display of rugby to take their first win of the season against their nemesis Peterborough Ladies.

Becky Beard helped herself to a hat-trick of tries as the team stormed to a convincing win.

Hosting an experienced Peterborough side, West Norfolk were expecting a physical contest and weren’t disappointed.

The forwards battered Peterborough’s defence from the start, turning over ruck after ruck as Rosie Lingham put the first points on the board within five minutes.

Soon after, Beard’s excellent footwork helped her weave through the opposition to score under the posts, with Zoe Sharp converting.

The first half finished with a flurry of tries from Mary Hegarty, Beard and Zoe Sharp with captain Amber Wadlow forcing a second try through, taking the first half total to seven tries to the hosts.

West started the second half determined to continue as they had finished the first.

The challenge was quickly accepted by Beard who completed her hat-trick and was instrumental in the final try.

Sharp and her twin Kathryn proved to be a good partnership with the latter drawing defenders and then making a quick pass to her sister allowing her a second try.

The final whistle blew on a game that had everything a rugby fan expects.

The final score was 53-0 to West Norfolk and a well-deserved victory for a team who proved that teamwork will win the day.

Back-of-the-match was Kathryn Sharp and forward-of-the-match Laura Delaney.

West Norfolk Ladies’ next match is on Sunday, November 24, at home against Derby Vipers.
