Billericay test for King's Lynn as manager announces his departure
King’s Lynn Town Ladies FC have been drawn away against Billericay in the First Round proper of the Vitality Women’s FA Cup.
The Linnets made it through without kicking a ball in anger after their home fixture on Sunday was awarded as a home walk over after final qualifying round opponents Hitchin Belles FC announced they were unable to field a side at the end of last week.
It is the first time in the club’s history that King’s Lynn Town Ladies have made the First Round Proper.
With the highs in football come the lows as manager Alex Cook, who has had to juggle his career with working as an unpaid volunteer, announced he was stepping down from his role with immediate effect.
Cook’s recent move to the Ipswich Town Academy has meant additional strains placed on his time and he felt that he was no longer able to give the team the time and attention it deserves
Lynn’s outgoing boss said: “There is so much positivity to look back on. I can’t thank the squad enough for their hard work and commitment over the last 10 months.
"Despite my departure I will continue to follow and attend whenever possible.
“I’m proud we have built a family environment within the squad, which has allowed us to recruit players. Players who have seen what we have to offer as a club.
“Off the pitch our community engagement has increased dramatically which has seen our attendances increase at our home fixtures.
“We wanted as a club to inspire the next generation, so our use of local junior teams and school children as our mascots has provided one such avenue with the ladies seen as role models.
“Finally, I would like to thank the club for the opportunity it has provided me and allowed me once again to fall back in love with the game.”
The team have put on record their extreme gratitude to Alex for his input and commitment over the last ten months and wish him well for his future endeavours.
Any interested parties for the vacant coaching role are asked to get in contact via the normal social media channels.
King’s Lynn Town Ladies will return to ERWFL Premier Division on Sunday at the Walks against Harlow Town Ladies (2pm).
