Comfortable win for Downham against Norwich
Downham Stow came away with an emphatic victory on Saturday against Norwich CC, bowling the opposition out for 113 and comfortably chasing the score down in 25 overs for the loss of only three wickets.
Dan Ward and Jamie Cook ripped through the opposition’s batting line-up with both impressively bowling their 10 overs unchanged.
Cook was the pick of the bowlers, getting the ball to swing prodigiously to finish with 4/21 (10). Playing his first game of the season, Ward was at his miserly best, finishing with 1/22 (10) and putting a strangle on the batsmen, allowing the rest of the attack to benefit.
Although Norwich built a partnership, they couldn’t lift the scoring rate because of disciplined bowling, with Adam Todd coming on and cleaning the tail to finish with 3/15 (7.1) and the home side bowled out for 113.
The batsmen ensured that the hard work of the bowlers wouldn’t go to waste and made light work of the run chase with contributions throughout.
Finlay Wilcox carried his form from the previous week with a positive 26 to ensure that the team got off to a good start and Ben Wilcox (21 not out) calmly ensured that the chase was comfortably managed with Australian Pranav Susarla (48).
The team looks to carry its form through their next match against Brooke CC at Downham Memorial Ground.
