Respect initiative created by Norfolk body designed on the positive values that keep grassroots football thriving
Norfolk County FA has launched a brand-new Respect Programme for the 2025/26 season, created in partnership with Hansells Solicitors, to shine a light on the positive values that keep grassroots football thriving.
The initiative is designed to celebrate fair play, respect and teamwork, rewarding the clubs and teams that embody the very best of the county’s football community, both on and off the pitch.
The programme builds on The FA’s national “Grassroots Code” campaign, which promotes five core standards of behaviour: Enjoy the Game, Give Respect, Be Inclusive, Work Together, and Play Safe.
Together, these principles aim to create a safe, enjoyable and inclusive environment for everyone taking part in grassroots football.
Norfolk FA’s new approach will recognise and reward those who consistently demonstrate those values through three new awards: The Norfolk FA 100% Club, The Hansells Solicitors Fair Play Award, and The Hansells Solicitors Respect Award.
The 100% Club will honour teams that achieve perfect Respect marks across the season.
Teams maintaining their record throughout the year will earn a place in a special roll of honour, with additional prizes on offer.
The Hansells Solicitors Fair Play Award focuses on youth football, celebrating teams that display exceptional sportsmanship in the Norfolk FA’s six Youth County Cup finals.
Winners will receive a brand-new Nike kit, courtesy of Hansells.
Topping the list is the Hansells Solicitors Respect Award, recognising the “best of the best”.
This accolade will go to clubs that meet strict eligibility standards and demonstrate outstanding commitment to respect, teamwork and positive behaviour across all their teams.
Rachel Cossey, head of football delivery at Norfolk FA, said: “We’re delighted to launch the Respect Programme with Hansells Solicitors. It’s about rewarding those who lead by example and create a positive football environment for all.”
Hansells Solicitors’ legal director, Mark Scott, added: “Too often, behaviour is policed through penalties. These awards flip the narrative, celebrating the clubs and teams setting the right example, particularly in youth football.”
The initiative marks a major step in ensuring Norfolk’s grassroots game continues to grow in the right spirit.
