Lynn Cycling Club’s Go Ride racers competed at Hilly Fields Supacross in Colchester.

Bethany Barnett came third in the youth girls while club coach Maciej Malyszka, racing in the veteran 40 category, finished six places up the field in 29th in what was only his second cyclocross race.

Barnett is an up-and-coming young cycle cross rider from the club and is following in the footsteps of world champion cyclocross rider Helen Wyman, a former Lynn rider, and is keeping her eyes on the youngster’s progress.

Reflecting on his performance, Maciej Malyszka said: “It was a very fast course as the surface was dry but care had to be taken over the sandy sections.

“I started from a second line but the competitors forced me over into a tree.

“Sadly I lost my rear brake trying to overtake too aggressively maybe. Two laps with front brakes only add more fun factor to the race.”

To mix things up, club duo Simon Hardy and Kersten Muller cycled on their cross bikes to Shouldham Warren to take part in Ryston Runners November cross country race before getting back on their bikes to cycle back home.

Muller came seventh in the veteran men’s 40-44 age group with a time of 38.33, while Hardy completed the 9k course in exactly 37 minutes, finishing eighth in the 45-49 class.

Cyclocross is a fast growing sport and attracts riders of all abilities and ages. Races are organised in the autumn and winter and due to their popularity, booking is advisable.

The races are posted at: www.britishcycling.org.uk and the next regional race is at Diss on Sunday.
