Sparrow flies to King’s Lynn Cycling Club TT 25-mile fastest around A10 spots South Runcton, Bexwell, Stradsett and Tottenhill
This week’s King’s Lynn Cycling Club TT was the first in a series of three 25-milers.
There was a lucky field of 13 riders who rode in near-perfect weather conditions, of relative warmth and light winds.
The route starts at South Runcton on the A10, heads towards Bexwell roundabout, onward to Stradsett, with a very sharp left turn, then heading along the undulating A134 to the next roundabout, at Tottenhill, again turning a sharp left, then leading to South Runcton for lap two.
Results as follows: Ray Barnett (1 lap) 33.40, Florence Barnett (1 lap) 36.44, Bethany Barnett (2nd claim), 1 hr 08.57, J Sutton 1.04.02, K Goldsmith 1.04.02, Simon Hardy 2 03.47, Simon Riches 57.59, David Webster 1.01.18, Jamie Sparrow 55.53 (fastest rider).
Seven club riders took part in the Tour of Cambridgeshire 100 miles of closed roads sportive. This is the first time the event had roads closed to vehicles, for 100 miles. The start and finish lines were located at the Peterborough showground.
Not only did the riders have to deal with the 26c temperature, there was also a hot humid strong south west wind across the Fens, which made riding conditions tough.
Gary Bowles suffered from leg cramps at 80 miles, which had an effect on his final time. He had hoped to complete the distance under five hours. Final time 5 hrs 18 mins.
Other riders: Phil Seaman 5.45, Nicki Brown 5.40, Mandy and Jason Blackwell 6.29, Paul Johnson (rode in the 67 miles route, 5.12) and Peter Barber 7hrs.
