Siblings took part in Lee Valley December Open Grade Meeting
Sunday saw Ryston Runners brothers David and Robert MacQueen open up their indoor track and field season with a bang.
Both came away with new personal bests, as well as achieving qualifying times in the 60m sprint for the England Indoor Track and Field Championships which take place in Sheffield in February.
They were taking part in the Lee Valley December Open Grade Meeting, meaning they were put in races with people of the same ability, with all athletes getting to run two 60m sprints.
It was also David’s first competition as an Under-15, but he showed how much he had progressed over the year taking his 60m best time from 8.56 seconds to 8.11 in his first race. In his second race he clocked 8.16.
Robert qualified for the nationals last season as an U17, but England Athletics had taken 0.1 seconds off the qualifying time, requiring 7.60 secs to qualify this year.
In his first race he set a new PB of 7.61, agonisingly close to the qualifying mark, but he managed to find that extra bit in his second race, improving it to 7.60.
