Downham Stow beaten by Witham in East Anglian Premier League

Downham Stow fell to a heavy home defeat against old rivals Witham in the East Anglian Premier League.

It was visiting skipper Michael Goodwin who won the toss and had no hesitation in choosing to bat on what was a glorious pitch.

The visitors made a good start with openers Goodwin and centurion from last week, Harrison McDonald, taking the score past 50.

McDonald fell to a good catch from Freddie Fairey off the bowling of Brett Stolworthy.

One soon brought two as Joshua Down nicked the ball through to the returning Pat Yates, again off Stolworthy.

Arthur Wilcox claimed a well-deserved wicket before the lunch break to leave Witham on 93 for 3.

The partnership between Chris Huntingdon and former Norwich City striker Cody McDonald frustrated the home side after lunch, putting on 68 for the fourth wicket.

It was broken by Addam Todd, Ben Wilcox, taking the catch.

That sparked a huge collapse in the Witham innings, the visitors losing six wickets for 44 runs.

Todd helped himself to four wickets, and Stolworthy collected three.

Overseas star Sachindu Colombage took two wickets and Arthur Wilcox just the one.

The Downham Stow innings got off to the worst start, losing openers Will Denny and Finley Wilcox and then Freddie Fairey with the score on eight runs.

The innings couldn't be regathered as wickets fell at regular intervals.

Ben Wilcox fell to the left arm spin of Greg Stephens with the score on 36.

Arthur Wilcox and Hudson De-Lucchi put on a 50-run partnership, but both lost their wickets in quick succession.

The lower order couldn't contribute many more runs and Downham Stow were eventually all out for 107.
