Hurdler James runs dominant race while sister Hannah wins U20 400m

Eastern Counties Athletics Championships took place at Peterborough last weekend and had a distinctive ‘family’ feel for West Norfolk AC.

Highlight of the day was James Greenhalgh who ran a dominant race in the Senior Men’s 400m hurdles, winning gold in 56.90 seconds and also later that day won a silver medal in 23.55 sec in the 200m.

Sister Hannah had a good run in the U20s 400m winning the gold medal and took the bronze medal in the 100m in 13.7 sec.

The Williams brothers had another medal haul in the U17 men’s events. Alfie Williams won silver medals in the shot put 13.20m and in the high jump leaping to equal his personal best (PB) of 1.65m. Alfie also won bronze in the 400m hurdles race. Brother Charlie won the silvers in the discus throwing 32.85m and in 400m was only just beaten into second with a 55.1sec run.

Senior man Luke Nash jumped 4.50m, winning silver, but injury meant he could take no further part in other events. His son, U13 boy Sam Nash, won bronze in the long jump 3.66m, a new PB, and came eighth in the 100m in 15.37sec.

Sister and brother team, Tayla and Rahim Benson also shared the spoils. Senior woman Tayla won silver in the 100m and bronze in the shot whilst U20 Rahim won gold again in the long jump.

Meanwhile in the non-family related results, U15 girl Ruby Schwarz ran 13.58sec in the 100m, 28.84sec in the 200m and jumped 4.15m in the long jump.

U15 girl Elizabeth Wood jumped 4.17m. U17 athlete Rachel Chapman was listed to run in the hurdles but pulled out due to injury.

U17s Athlete Lucy Koenigsberger competed for her 2nd club Shaftsbury Barnet in the Youth Development League on Sunday in the Hammer Competition. Lucy finished 3rd in this highly competitive event against some of the country’s best, throwing her third furthest ever Hammer of 53.19m. This was all good preparation for next weekends England Schools Athletics Championships in Birmingham. Lucy is one of only two West Norfolk AC athletes selected to take part.

Senior athlete Antony James Robinson made his debut for West Norfolk AC last weekend in the Lincoln 10k. Robinson ran a time of 39m 31sec (chip time).

This was a top 100 finish in a field of almost 4,000 on a very hot day in Lincolnshire.
