King’s Lynn circuit plays host to a huge weekend of F1 stock cars and 2L saloon stock car action

A big weekend of racing took place at Lynn with the BriSCA F1 stock cars and 2L saloon stock cars in action each day.

There were big races for both formulas with the F1 stock cars featuring their second World Championship Semi-Final and the 2L stock cars racing for the European Championship.

World Champion Tom Harris won the F1 stock car Semi-Final which means he will defend his world title from pole position next month.

Norfolk’s Matt Newson then winning the Dash for Cash.

There were several local drivers in action in the 2L stock cars.

Saturday night saw drivers race in three out of five heats with Levi List continuing to progress on shale and he survived a last bend attack from UK Champion Alfie Aldous to take the chequered flag in the last heat.

Before that, Keegan Sampson – in his first outing for a few months – came home in third place in the third heat whilst Austen Freestone’s solitary sixth-place finish in the fourth heat was not enough to see him qualify for the European.

Chris Masters and Willie Skoyles also had a difficult night whilst Kieran Bowman swapped the bangers for a weekend in one of the Billy Smith hire cars.

He adjusted to the very different style of saloon stock car racing from national banger racing and put in some quick laps, but failed to qualify from the Saturday night qualifying.

In the last-chance race on Sunday, Freestone was certainly back up to speed as he qualified for the European with a brilliant second-place finish.

In the 2l stock cars, Kieran Bowman qualified for his first championship with an eighth-place finish.

Timmy Barnes successfully defended his European Title with Freestone producing a great drive from towards the back of the grid to be the best local finisher in 11th with Sampson coming home in 13th.

Freestone came home second to Wes Starmer in the Steve Newman Memorial and held off Northern Ireland’s Kieran McIvor to win the Dash for Cash.

Racing returns to Lynn on Saturday (5pm) for the annual Pre 80 banger meeting with racing also coming from the junior banger Pre 95 meeting.
