Fakenham Town boss wants new faces for Thurlow Nunn Division One North campaign

Andy Cunningham hopes to have the majority of Fakenham Town’s squad in place by the time pre-season arrives and has his eye on several new signings, writes Ed Colman.

The Ghosts’ boss confirmed that the majority of last season’s squad have already committed to the club for next season.

Cunningham said: “I am not going to name names at the moment, but I will say that I expect the majority of last season’s squad to be with us next season.

“I’m confident of keeping the core of the group and we aren’t far off being able to release a full list but there are still a few loose ends which need to be tied up.

“Continuity is important and once the squad settled last season we did well. I’m definitely not going to be looking to overhaul the squad.”

Cunningham has got his eye on three or four new additions to add strength and depth to his squad, but wants any new arrivals to be on board before pre-season.

“I’ve got three or four players in mind who I would like to bring in that will add some depth to the squad and increase competition for places,” he said.

“It is important to have healthy competition as it keeps players on their toes and everyone raises their game that little bit more because they want to play.

“I don’t think we had a squad big enough to cope with the demanding schedule at times last season so that’s something I’m looking to address.”

“I want any new players to be with us when we regroup for pre-season. We are putting together a testing pre-season schedule and I want the whole squad to be a part of it with the exception of holidays.”

Cunningham confirmed that Scott Lumsden will remain as his assistant next season while club stalwart Stephen Harvey will be joining the coaching set-up. The Ghosts are currently recruiting a new manager for their reserve side, with an announcement expected next week.
