Reflecting on the event, Ashmore said: “The nerves were certainly showing on the first tee, as I couldn’t stop my hand from shaking as I tried to tee my ball up.”

After hitting a birdie on the first hole, he never looked back to make the four-man play-off.

Despite bogeying the first hole in the play-off, Ashmore managed to pull a shot back on the second play-off hole and repeated the feat on the 18th to set up an extra three play-off holes until the result was concluded.

The day was made extra special as Ashmore had his stepson (Luke Johnson) on his bag.

“Without Luke by my side, I don’t think I would have won today,” admitted Ashmore.

“I know I had to play the shots but some of his decisions proved to be the right ones at the right time. We made a great team.”

Ashmore will now play in the International Grand Final, at Hull Golf Club, on August 29 and Lynn Golf Club wish him all the best.

The Trilby Tour is covered by FREESPORTS and will be shown on TV later in the year.
