Overhead kick leaves Pedlars one game away from a Carrow Road appearance

An early wonder-goal from Ryan Pearson set Swaffham Town on their way to a Norfolk Senior Cup semi-final spot on Saturday.

Pearson opened the scoring with a spectacular overhead kick from a Kyle Plumb cross after five minutes during the Pedlars’ 3-0 quarter-final victory at the Football Development Centre.

Swaffham made it 2-0 midway through the second half when a spilled save from a Luis Duarte shot was followed up by Nick Castellan to net from six yards.

Castellan added his second 16 minutes from time, lashing the ball into the left-hand corner from 16 yards out.

UEA were worthy opponents and fought on until the end to bring the best out of Pedlars goalkeeper Tommy Rix, who made two outstanding saves in the final ten minutes of the tie.

In Division One North of the Thurlow Nunn League, clear-cut chances were few and far between as Fakenham Town were held to a goalless draw by Needham Reserves at Clipbush Park.

Friday night’s scheduled derby between King’s Lynn Town Reserves and Downham Town was postponed due to an unfit pitch at The Walks.

Tuesday night sees third-placed Swaffham back in league action when they travel to Haverhill Borough.

Meanwhile, back at Shoemakers Lane, Swaffham Town Reserves maintained their hold on Division Three of the Anglian Combination League with a good 2-0 victory over Aylsham Reserves.

James Thompson and Blake Stangroome were on the scoresheet for Swaffham’s second string.
