In a preview of next month’s League Cup Final, Denver came from behind and produced a late rally to progress to the last eight of the Charlie Day Cup.

In a game packed full of incident with both sides denied clear-cut penalties, the deadlock was not broken until the visitors took the lead after 70 minutes.

Denver drew level 12 minutes later when Darren Thorpe found the net following a Matty Willis corner. The home side then edged ahead in the 88th minute when a 25-yard screamer from Thorpe hit the underside of the bar and appeared to cross the line before Danny Brooks made sure by tucking home his 12th strike of the season.

Andrew Carter reached the same mark deep into added time when he latched on to a Willis cross.

PKS Construction/ Morris Armitage MoM: Veteran centre-back Darren Thorpe, ironically not at his best in defence but his contributions at the other end of the pitch swung the game in Denver’s favour.
