NORFOLK SENIOR CUP
Downham Town 3
Norwich CEYMS 0
Downham Town sealed a spot in the quarter-finals of the Norfolk Senior Cup as they overcame Norwich CEYMS at Memorial Field on Saturday.
A goal in each half from Town skipper Matthew Calvert and Ben Baxter-Hunt’s effort early in the second-half earned Downham a 3-0 victory over a determined and spirited CEYMS outfit.
Saturday saw Paul Neary’s side record their sixth consecutive victory in all competitions.
After their latest triumph, Neary insisted the prospect of potential cup success won’t distract from Downham’s league commitments.
A delighted Neary said: “It is great to be the last eight of the Senior Cup and it is a deserved reward for the boys after all their effort.
“We played really well on Saturday and deserved the victory.
“It is great to see the hard work that everyone has been putting in paying off on the pitch.
“A cup run is always nice, but we won’t’ be getting distracted by it, we are doing well in the league at the moment and we want to keep that going.”
Neary added: “We will take each game as it comes and make sure we show the right attitude in every match.
“I am looking forward to getting back to the league and keeping the run going.
“Six wins on the bounce is a great achievement and I am really proud of the boys.”
Downham will find out who they will face in the quarter-finals on Friday evening, when the draw is made live on BBC Radio Norfolk between 6.30pm and 7pm.
Yarmouth Town, Wymondham Town, Wroxham and Thetford all booked a place in the last eight of the competition over the weekend.
The last three spaces will be filled tonight when current holders King’s Lynn Town entertain Attleborough Town, Diss travel to Dereham and Sheringham welcome Norwich United.
