Norfolk Senior Cup
King’s Lynn Town 5 Attleborough Town 1
King’s Lynn Town eased into the last eight of the Norfolk Senior Cup with a 5-1 win over Anglian Combination side Attleborough Town.
The Linnets began their defence of the competition in style with Tom Siddons registering a hat-trick in a tie that also saw the hosts miss two penalties.
Lynn fielded a strong reserve team with Eion McQuaid and Siddons, unused substitutes for the first team on Saturday, in the starting XI.
The visitors nearly got off to the perfect start when the lively Jack Flynn broke through on the second minute rounding keeper Tom Rix but fired his effort into the side-netting.
Lynn took the lead on seven minutes through Siddons with a neat turn and curling finish.
Flynn had another chance for the visitors but shot straight at Rix who couldn’t hold the ball but saved the follow-up by blocking with his feet.
Dylan Edge, who was a late addition to the starting line-up, was responsible for Lynn’s second on eleven minutes, his cross-shot being diverted into the net by a defender.
Lynn had two chances to increase their lead from the penalty spot.
The first, on 35 minutes, was the result of a foul on Edge by Liam Clayton but McQuaid’s spot-kick was saved by Josh Guineas.
The second kick came three minutes later following a hand ball, this time Siddons took the kick but Guineas produced another fine diving save to his left.
Five minutes before the interval Lynn added to their tally when Siddons finished with a tap-in to make in 3-0.
The visitors suffered a further set back just before half-time when Kieran Brown was dismissed for a foul on Nathan Daw.
Attleborough pulled a goal back on 52 minutes when Flynn managed to get in between Rix and Daw to slot home.
Substitute Harry Baldry added his name to the scoresheet with a shot from distance on 74 minutes and two minutes later Siddons completed his hat-trick.
