Division One

Downham Town 4 Braintree Town Res 2

Downham Town boss Pete Brassett praised his side after seeing them end a run of seven successive defeats against-promotion-chasing Braintree.

Goals from Matthew Calvert, Luke Plumb, Craig Dickson and Simon Bird secured a well-deserved victory for Town.

Brassett said: “I’m absolutely over the moon with the result and the performance, against a Braintree side who had a couple of lads who’d been playing Blue Square Premier football this season.”

Swaffham Town 3

Cornard United 1

Two goals from Alex Vincent handed Swaffham a valuable three points against the division’s strugglers.

Swaffham, who lost the influential Richard Cornwall through injury early on, took the lead when Toby Hilliard won a header for Vincent to slot past the goalkeeper.

Captain Dean Miller and Vincent (twice) went close to extending Swaffham’s lead before Cornard equalised 18 minutes into the second period. The shock to the system had the desired effect when, two minutes later, Lee Woolmore headed home a Hilliard centre.

The game was finally put to bed two minutes from time when Loui Hockton played in Vincent for his second.

n Fakenham Town’s scheduled fixture at Stowmarket Town was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
