Fakenham Town 1
Diss Town 0
Fakenham cemented their place in the top half of the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division thanks to a hard-earned victory over bottom side Diss.
Ben Boyce struck the crucial goal from close range six minutes before half-time.
The Ghosts dug deep following 120 minutes plus penalties in a League Cup clash in the week – which came after a monumental effort to win at title challengers Godmanchester Rovers the previous Saturday.
Diss enjoyed most of the possession but other than a couple of half-threats they never looked like breaking through, leaving Fakenham boss Wayne Anderson delighted with his players’ efforts.
He said: “The lads dug in and the result keeps us in a good place in the table which we deserve, not just for the Diss game but also from beating Godmanchester last week as they beat [reigning champions] Hadleigh on Saturday.
“It just shows the character we have about us and we didn’t play very well, but we grafted the result out.
“Good teams play badly and get results so for me to be able to say that proves what sort of a side we are and the resilience we have in the squad.”
The Ghosts have no midweek game as they prepare for Saturday’s FA Vase first round clash at Irchester United.
Meanwhile, their under-18s are into the first round proper of the FA Youth Cup and host AFC Wimbledon at Clipbush Park on Tuesday, November 4 (7.30pm).
