Perhaps Alan Hansen’s most renowned moment was the infamous “you can’t win anything with kids” statement he made following Manchester United’s 3-1 defeat by Aston Villa on the opening day of the 1995-96 season.

But it’s fair to say that Hansen’s thoughts are not shared by Fakenham Town manager, Wayne Anderson, who feels that youth development has been key to his side’s success this season.

The Ghosts have seen youngsters Ricky Claxton, Danny Tuddenham and Callum Brain break into their first team set-up this season. Most noticeably Dion Frary and Ashley Jarvis are now regulars in their starting 11, with Anderson (pictured) praising the club’s commitment to their young players.

He said: “The young lads are a really important part of our set up here, and they are all very committed and have shown a lot of quality which is really pleasing for me to see.

“A lot of other local clubs have a lot more money to invest in their academies and developing their young players, and for us to do so well on a limited budget is testament to everyone who has put a lot of hard work in behind the scenes.

“Our young players have all done themselves and the club proud this season and we will continue to invest in them and develop them as it is important to remember they are the future of this club and key to what we want to build at this club.”

Tomorrow the Ghosts welcome Stanway Rovers to Clipbush Park and Anderson believes that attack will be the best form of defence for his side against an in-form Rovers side.

He said: “We know that Stanway are a very good side and that they have scored a lot of goals recently, so we are going to have to have our wits about us but the best way to defend against them will be to focus on our strengths and play to hurt them.

“The best form of defence, is always attack.”
