Stowmarket Town 2 Swaffham Tn 8

In the Thurlow Nunn First Division, Alex Vincent was the star man as Swaffham inflicted an embarrassing 8-2 defeat over Stowmarket Town.

The opening goal came in the tenth minute, when Vincent fired home from 26 yards, beating the home keeper to net in the left hand side bottom corner.

He added to his tally nine minutes later, the keeper beating down his effort for Vincent to round him and finish. The home side kept the match alive in the 22nd minute, pulling one back, the next goal surely deciding the way the game would go forward.

Nick Castellan answered the question by driving side footed to lob the keeper in the 26th minute from 25 yards.

The game was surely put to bed with five minutes to go in the first half, as Matthew Castellan put through Vincent who finished well to claim his hat-trick, sliding his strike past the visitors’ keeper.

A great start to the second half for Swaffham, just three minutes in, saw Mark Allibone striking first time from a Matthew Castellan delivery, the keeper standing no chance to his left hand side.

Vincent made it six and his fourth in the 76th minute, picking up a cleared ball 35 yards out, driving low and hard to find the bottom left hand corner of the net.

A well deserved goal from Joe Jackson, which was just reward for the hard work and effort displayed, came in the 80th minute. It was a solo run to beat two defenders and a clinical finish to mark his influence on the game.

The final blow to Stowmarket came from Rory Harper, coming on as substitute in the 67th minute, knocking ahead and running through, beating the defence and gaining 15 yards, to finish with ease from 12 yards.

The home side got a consolation in added time, the referee blowing up as the game re-started.

Next weekend, the Pedlars travel to Cornard United hoping to further their progress.

A fantastic performance by Swaffham Reserves saw them beat promotion contenders Mattishall Reserves 2-0, Luke Reed scoring both goals to bring home the points and leave them as league leaders.

The Under 18’s on Thursday evening host Soham Town Rangers at Shoemakers Lane in the Thurlow Nunn Youth League.

Elsewhere, Downham Town were held to a 1-1 draw by Debenham LC, with Patrick Yates levelling for the Memorial Field side in the closing stages of their match.
