FA Cup Third Qualifying Round

Barwell 1 King’s Lynn Tn 0

Keeper Alex Street’s late error cost Lynn a place in the Fourth Qualifying Round of the Emirates FA Cup.

Street’s clearance hit Kern Miller and looped to Jamie Towers to head home in the 76th minute.

In a scrappy game, Lynn created the better chances but lacked that killer instinct in the final third of the field.

King’s Lynn Town manager Gary Setchell thought recent signing Lee Smith was the best player on the pitch. Lynn gave a debut to Smith at right back with Matt Castellan being cup tied.

Smith was soon switched to the left as Lynn lost Conor Marshall with a knee injury on 15 minutes.

Lynn’s best effort of a half with few clear-cut chances came just before half-time when Michael Clunan’s free-kick found the head of Ryan Fryatt but his flick went just wide.

The opening of the second half saw Lynn apply pressure and their best chance of the game came just after the hour when consecutive corners ended with Ryan Fryatt’s header being cleared off the line.

Barwell came more into the game and fortune smiled on them on 76 minutes.

Although Lynn had the endeavour to find the equaliser they didn’t have the cutting edge or luck with their best chance coming from another Clunan corner but Kern Miller headed over.

To add to Lynn’s problems, Clunan picked up his fifth booking of the season and will miss the Southern League Premier Division trip to Weymouth in two weeks’ time.
