The Linnets returned back from their trip to Dorset pointless as they found the tightest defence in the league too much for them.

A goal in each half was enough to condemn Lynn to a comprehensive defeat in a match which saw the Linnets finish the game with nine men.

Injuries to defensive trio Sam Gaughran, Kern Miller and Jordan Yong marred a poor away display by The Walks outfit who rarely looked like building on their 2-1 midweek victory at Histon.

Linnets boss Gary Setchell said: “We were soundly beaten today and it was always going to be tough without Bridges, Clunan and Marshall beforehand.

“But to lose Gaughran and Miller and Yong to injuries in the game left us with nine men and we now have a real headache going into Tuesday’s home game.”

Chris Shepard had the opening chance on ten minutes, stinging the palms of Alex Street.

Liam Hurst had an early opportunity for Lynn when he fired narrowly wide from 25 yards but Setchell’s side were restricted to mainly long-range efforts.

The home took the lead on 21 minutes when the dangerous Stuart Yetton headed home Jake Wannell’s cross despite Lynn players calling for a foul.

A double save from Street kept the Linnets in with a chance, the young shotstopper saving well from Sheppard before getting up quickly to foil Mark Cooper’s follow up.

Substitute Jack Friend registered Lynn’s best effort of the second half when his curling free-kick was saved by Jason Matthews.

Only moments later the hosts doubled their advantage. Linnets substitute Matty Castellan was guilty of fouling Jordan Copp before he dusted himself down and took the resulting penalty.

Street saved the spot-kick but the rebound fell straight back to Copp who easily dispatched the rebound into the net.

The day got worse for Lynn who ended the game with nine men having already used all of their substitutes.

Miller was the last player to limp off to complete a miserable visit to the south coast.
