Norfolk Junior Cup
Redgate Rangers 2
Redgate have reached the semi-final of the Norfolk Junior Cup for the first time in their history, with victory over Crown and Fire League opponents Tacolneston.
The game was switched to Redgate midweek due to pitch problems at Tacolneston, and was played with a fierce wind on Saturday.
Tacolneston went with the wind in the first half, and had a lot of the ball as expected, but the Redgate defence battled hard and put their bodies on the line to keep the scores at 0-0 at the interval.
Hunstanton-based Redgate knew it was half a job done in the first half.
They went out second half and played to the conditions.
After 55 minutes, Ady Hayes sent in a lovely cross which was met by James Miller with a strong header at the back post to put the hosts ahead.
Tacolneston then came at Redgate, but with the strong wind a ball over the top on the counter saw Danny Jezeph net Redgate’s second on 60 minutes.
Redgate dominated the rest of the half with Tacolneston not really testing the home goalkeeper, and the home team could have scored a couple more goals towards the end.
Match day sponsors were Caley Hall Hotel, Old Hunstanton
Redgate will now await the draw which is on Radio Norfolk tonight, 6.30-7pm, to see who they will face in the semi-final on Saturday, February 28.
Sprowston Athletic, Catfield or another West Norfolk side, Castle Acre Swifts, are the remaining three sides.
