Thurlow Nunn League
Swaffham Tn 7 Whitton U 0
A commanding performance and return to winning ways for the Pedlars at the start of the festive season.
The visitors started strongly and aggressively, pushing hard in the opening minutes, and really looking to threaten the Swaffham defence.
The pressure was relieved in the eighth minute, Richard Cornwall playing Alex Vincent through, leaving him to pass past the keeper for the opener.
Vincent hit his second with half an hour gone, beating the keeper from 15 yards, supplied by a cracking through-ball, again from Cornwall.
Just seven minutes into the second half, Joe Jackson opened his account, striking home from 20 yards, beating the keeper to his left. In the 63rd minute, Matthew Blackford hit the post from the edge of the box from a Vincent cross.
Three minutes later Jackson hit his second, a volley from 20 yards slamming into the back of the net. Blackford reaped his rewards in the 72nd minute, picking up a poor clearance from a corner, striking home from 20 yards, and scoring his first for the first team.
Jackson’s hat-trick and Swaffham’s sixth came in the 80th minute, finishing from close range but good enough to claim the match ball. Jackson netted his fourth in the 84th minute, played through and dribbling round the keeper to walk the ball into the net.
The Pedlars are next in action on Boxing Day, at home to Walsham-Le-Willows, kick off 11am.
The Reserves brought three points back to Shoemakers Lane from Beccles Caxton. Despite being two goals down, they turned the fixture around to win 3-2. Goals from Ahmed Rhaouti, captain, Alfie Brindle and Josh Murray.
Following a poor first half performance, the Under 18’s put in a determined second half shift to beat Fakenham 2-1 with goals from Ahmed Rhaouti and Matthew Blackford.
The Swaffham Town committee and players would like to thank the spectators and sponsors for their valued support and enthusiasm during the year.
