Division One

Diss Town 1 Lynn Res 1

The young Linnets travelled to Diss without Kevin White, Robbie Palmer, Nathan Daw, Simon Bird and Alex Clunan.

This gave opportunities to youth team players Danny Setchell, Kieren Shipp and Kodie Turvey, who all started the game, while Jacob White and Charlie Congreave made the bench.

Lynn started the better of the two sides and had early chances from Karl Tansley and Jack Frohawk. Luke Pearson, who was on fine form all afternoon, made two fine saves before half time to keep the scores at 0-0.

Lynn made the breakthrough on 75 minutes via good work from Frohawk who crossed to Tansley who cleverly finished. The Diss players protested for a handball but the official waved away their protests. Lynn could have increased their lead but the impressive Setchell couldn’t convert his chance.

Diss equalised in the 90th minute when Self headed in a rebound after Luke Pearson made three incredible saves to deny them beforehand. The line official flagged for the goal to be disallowed for offside but after much deliberation between the officials the referee gave the goal.

Boss Robbie Back said: “On reflection it was disappointing to not get all three points but the average age of the team was only 20 against a team who had only been relegated from the Premier Division.”

Man of the Match: Kieren Shipp.

The Linnets go to Wroxham in the Norfolk Senior Cup tonight.
