West Acre man and former Lynn News cricket correspondent dies aged 76
The Lynn News is sad to learn about the death of former cricket correspondent Jeremy Cameron.
Mr Cameron, 76, passed away while on holiday in Tobago before the new year and had been battling with Parkinson’s for some years.
The former West Acre player, book lover and author had thoroughly enjoyed meeting many members of the Barmy Army and watching the England team on tour late last year.
Lynn News sports editor Greg Plummer said: "Jeremy was a well-known figure in West Norfolk cricketing circles.
"I remember playing against his West Acre side for Terrington in my younger days. He used to open the batting and I used to relish bowling to him.
"He enjoyed writing his cricket articles for the Lynn News – he had a vast memory of the bygone days of Norfolk cricket and revelled in telling the stories to everyone he met.
"We crossed paths again a few years back, after which he started to write regular articles for the paper. My thoughts are with his family and friends."
In the summer of 2022, Mr Cameron published a book called: 'A Season in West Norfolk.'
The book contained 42 chapters made up of match reports from various Lynn News editions from between 2018 and 2022, including the Covid-hit season.
It featured several West Norfolk sides, including teams from Sandringham, Denver, North Runcton, Castle Acre and Castle Rising, Dersingham, Narborough, and many more.
After publishing the book, Mr Cameron said: "The West Norfolk League used to have six divisions. There was a time when every village had a cricket team, very often two. Hard to believe now, when barely half of them survive."
A retired probation officer, Mr Cameron published many works of fiction and non-fiction over the years, including crime novels.
Vey much a book addict, he converted his garage at his home in West Acre into a public library in 2020.
