Fakenham Town suffered an opening day defeat in their first match of the Thurlow Nunn League season on Saturday.

The Ghosts were beaten 3-1 by Long Melford in their Premier Division clash at Clipbush Park.

They found themselves trailing by two goals at the interval with Jacob Brown and Hassan Ally on target for the visitors. Fakenham then missed a gilt-edged chance early in the second half before halving the deficit through Kalum Benham’s own goal.

However, Perry Newman restored Melford’s two-goal advantage to leave the Ghosts looking to bounce back in tonight’s home match with Ely City who were 3-2 home winners over Hadleigh United on Saturday.

Swaffham Town have a busy week in the run-up to the start of their Division One North season at the weekend.

The first team were in action last Tuesday night where they worked hard for a 3-2 success over Peterborough League Premier Division side Leverington.

Tommy McDermott, Oli Williams and new signing Dan Roberts were on target for the Pedlars who complete their pre-season programme tonight (Tuesday) with a trip to Wells.

The reserves made the short trip to Bradenham on Friday night and were 4-3 winners thanks to goals from Blake Davies, Neil Goodbourne, Charlie Brindle and an own goal.

They then fielded a mix and match side against Castle Acre on Saturday where they were defeated 2-0.

The A Team have an in-house match against the Under 18s this week with the youngsters having beaten Gayton 4-1 last Wednesday. Harry Curson-Pope (penalty), Jed Samson and Jamie Horsnell (two) netted for the Pedlars.

The veterans are in action at Shoemakers Lane tomorrow night (Wednesday) to take on a visiting RAF Marham side.

The first team’s league campaign starts on Saturday with the Pedlars hosting Leiston Reserves.
