King’s Lynn plays host to special Halloween parkrun
There were some frighteningly fast times combined with spooky fancy dress as Lynn hosted its Halloween Parkrun.
While many took the opportunity to don witches’ hats and skeleton suits, the competitive spirit was alive and well at The Walks as the front-runners battled it out over the familiar 5k course.
George Munson produced a superb run to finish first overall in 17:56, just a single second shy of his personal best.
Munson, a long-time supporter of the event, edged out his friend and fellow regular Cody Pearman, who had to settle for second place in 18:06 after another strong outing.
In the women’s field, Elenor Walsh was the first female finisher, crossing the line in an impressive 21:39, maintaining her fine form over the distance.
Performance of the day, however, arguably went to Pauline Sparrow, whose outstanding effort earned her an age-graded score of 90.33%, placing her among the top-ranked runners nationwide for her category.
The event also welcomed 12 first-time parkrunners and 19 visitors from across the country, all enjoying the lively atmosphere and excellent running conditions.
There was further cause for celebration as several runners reached key participation milestones.
Thomas Reader and Charlotte Karreman-Lowie both completed their 10th parkrun, Richard Reed, Will Chandler, and Ellie Burt notched their 25th, while Pam Moore hit the 100-run mark and Mark Jones celebrated his 150th.
Despite the Halloween theme, it was the running that took centre stage.
Lynn parkrun is a free, timed 5k that’s open to everyone, regardless of age or ability.
If you’re new, just head to www.parkrun.com/register to sign up, and make sure to arrive by 8:45 am at The Walks Café to join the first-timers briefing.
Looking ahead, don’t forget that next week is Lynn parkrun’s big litter pick morning following the Fawkes in the Walks firework display.
Organisers are calling for all hands on deck to meet at the Walks Café at 7:30 am to collect equipment.
The annual litter pick is always a great way to give back to the community, so come along and show your support.
