The Searles Golf Club annual men’s and ladies club championships took place in perfect weather conditions.

For the second successive year, the men’s competition was played as a gross event.

But there was a prize available for the best net score and the ladies competition was played as a net competition.

In the men’s club championship for the Le Strange Trophy, good conditions resulted in four players scoring in the 70s.

Last year’s winner Rob Hills and Tony Thacker both shot gross 77.

However Peter Green, in the third group, submitted a gross score of 76 and took the victory.

The best net prize was collected by Wesley Hill, playing off 20, who shot a net 65.

The format of the ladies club championships for the Tennison Cup was played as net strokeplay, with a gross prize also presented.

Competing in her first club championships after only taking up the sport some 18 months ago, Karen Walden claimed overall victory with a net 67.

Walden was followed by Glynis Thacker in second place with a net 70, while Samantha Gooderson won the best gross.

Searles runs regular competitions for members nearly every weekend with medals, stablefords and social matches.

Membership at Searles Golf Club is still available.
