New stock car season underway at King’s Lynn as race fans flock to Adrian Flux Arena
The green flag fell on the 70th year of BriSCA F1 stock car racing on Saturday night.
The drivers served up a fantastic meeting with Thrapston’s Kyle Gray winning a fifth career final with Norfolk driver Matt Newson claiming a runner-up finish.
The main local interest was in the 2L stock cars with West Norfolk drivers in the thick of the action.
Levi List started things off well with a great third-place finish in the White and Yellow race while Chris Masters had his best race on shale in a 2L stock car and finished in a fantastic third place in the first heat.
Austen Freestone was unlucky not to take the chequered flag in the second heat.
A stoppage was called with a lap to go with Freestone in third spot.
Entering the final bend he went in with a great attack, which spun out Tommy Parrin, but Michael Kent managed to ride the fence and the Lynn driver was forced to settle for second.
Kent went on to win the final with Kegan Sampson, who clocked the fourth fastest lap of the night, the best local finisher in 12th place.
The 2024 national banger season starts at Lynn on Saturday (5pm) with racing coming from the 2L bangers, 1600cc bangers, junior bangers and 1300 stock cars.
