Grimston and North Runction share honours in weekend double-header
Grimston and North Runcton faced off this weekend in a double-header, with Grimston’s Saturday team visiting North Runcton’s 3rd team, and the Sunday side hosting at the Clean Tech Cricket Ground.
Having won the toss and chosen to bat, Grimston opened with league top scorer Mark Tilbrook and father Tim; whilst Tim fell to Max Barnes for only five runs.
Mark went on to score 51 before being caught by Gary Hawkins from the bowling of Harry Waite.
Ben Wilson added a useful 19 runs, but the standout performance was from debutant Barnaby Coe, who hit 47 off 47 balls before finally being bowled by Frederick Hawkins.
Grimston finished their innings on 202 all out
North Runcton made a faltering start to their batting, with Andrew Tilbrook claiming the wickets of Sam Major and Frederick Hawkins for only 27 runs.
However, Runcton batted themselves back into contention with an impressive 59 not out from Max Barnes and 25 from Gary Hawkins.
Ultimately, they fell short of the required total, finishing on 166.
The Sunday side, captained by Harry Ward, had an altogether tougher start than their Saturday compatriots, being reduced to eight runs and four wickets down inside the first three overs.
Ward and the remaining opener Sam Adkin, dug in with 34 and 29 runs respectively, but the team’s total of 123 for 8 never looked big enough to challenge the Runcton line-up.
Finlay Neaves took four wickets.
North Runcton opened their batting with Jacob Hancock, who went on to score 51 not out, despite numbers two and three both falling victim to Harry Ward in the first over.
Captain Jacob Lockheart scored 46 before being bowled by Liam Woodcock, and Jamie White came to the crease to see the North Runcton side over the line with 19 runs.
Runcton ran out winners with 126 runs for the loss of only three wickets within 18 overs.
